Splinter Event June 24, 2010
Join us this Thursday, June 24th, for our summer reading event. It promises to be an exciting night with performances by 2009 Rosenthal Emerging Voices Fellow, Erika Ayón, nonfiction/fiction writer and sexual outlaw, Antonia Crane, who snagged Splinter an interview with the amazing Steve Almond, fiction editor, Alan Stewart Carl, and L.A. performer and poet, Douglas Kearney, whose latest book, The Black Automaton (Fence, 2009), was the topic of our recent poetry discussion. We will also be treated to acoustic sets by musical guests David Gielan and L.A. band, Oliver Future.

on the porch taking turns letting a ladybug crawl inside our palms.
Apá is in the kitchen with Amá, screaming about how Mr. Craig,
whose house he painted the exterior of, refuses to pay. . »

Call for Interviews: DO Talk to Strangers
The Splinter Generation is now accepting submissions of interviews with people you wouldn’t ever talk to. Find someone you wouldn’t ordinarily meet, or someone you disagree with on almost everything and have dinner, or a drink, or an email exchange. Record it, transcribe it, edit it down, and send it in.

Being diagnosed with cancer and experiencing chemotherapy at age 25 dramatically changed the priorities and course of my work. Prior to this illness, I made narrative-based images about local history and my neighbors. Now, the stories in the work have emerged directly from my own body and memory, and the history is my own. »
